Activities given a boost with schools access
A discount policy (between 40 and 75 per cent) has been introduced specifically to encourage young people’s participation in sport and cultural activities.
As a result, many new users are taking up the opportunity to try out hockey, martial arts, football, badminton, fitness classes and karate.
One of the first major events to be held in the new high schools was the Robert Burns World Federation Schools Festival at Berwickshire High School in April and May this year.
The event used the majority of the facilities in the school, including the main assembly hall, theatre seating, three spacious rooms, the library and the various public areas.
David Scott was a member of the Borders Association of Burns Clubs team who organised and hosted the event. He said: “With it being the year of Homecoming, there are spectacular events being held all over Scotland this year.
“The schools’ festivals are the public showcase of the World Federation so something special was the order of the day – and special is what we got.”
