A rich floral tribute to our communities

Twenty-four towns and villages across the Borders were judged on the quality of floral displays, standard of cleanliness and level of community involvement.

This year also saw the introduction of a new category – the Champion of Champions – involving the 2008 winners of the other four categories.

 

Results:

  • Champion of Champions – Melrose. Morebattle, Broughton and Peebles highly commended.

  • Town Class – 1st Kelso, 2nd Galashiels, 3rd Hawick.

  • Large Village Class – 1st Coldstream, 2nd Chirnside, 3rd West Linton.

  • Small Village Class – 1st Yetholm, 2nd Newcastleton, 3rd Coldingham.

  • Wee Village Class – 1st Paxton, 2nd Gavinton, 3rd Birgham and Whitsome (shared).

Another new award recognised the efforts of Council workers who helped support entrants.

The first winner of this award was the Berwickshire Environmental Services team for their hard work and professionalism in the lead-up to the competition.
